World Scholar's Cup--Tournament of Champions at Yale
The 2018 WSC season culminated with 15 SOIS students competing in the Tournament of Champions at Yale University. Seven SIS students were a part of the delegation: Tomoka Matsushima, Tanishika Murthey, Yuzuka Kato, Miki Kato, Misa Ito, Yuki Kusanagi and Sophia Smith. While at Yale, the students competed in collaborative writing, the challenge test, debate and in a quiz bowl. They also participated in several cultural and interpersonal activities including the
Scholar's Ball, a team scavenge hunt and a cultural fair. The experience was enriching for all participants in academic, social, cultural and personal ways. It was a pleasure for me to be the coach and chaperone for this trip. I was impressed by how all the students interacted with others and how they competed fiercely but with dignity and class.
A team comprised of three OIS students--Tyus Sheriff, Skye Inada and Minami Matsushima--won the team championship in the senior division. This is the first time that a team from our school has won this prestigious title and their victory should bring attention and some glory to our school.
